See on Scoop.itAwakenings: America & Beyond

In the summer of 1893, “Brad’s Drink” hit the market! Brad’s Drink? What on earth is Brad’s Drink? Can’t be a drink named after Brad Pitt, he was born 70 years later. Let’s see…who by the name of Brad was influential in the year 1893?

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

The name was shortened to Pepsi in 1961 remaining the same into the 21st century but the logo has passed through many stages of evolution being tweaked and revamped while still maintaining the American image of red, white and blue.

Awakenings: A Day That Will Live in Infamy: December 7, 1941

See on Scoop.itAwakenings: America & Beyond

It was sunny, clear to partly cloudy skies, no different than most any other day with a calmness that rests on a Sunday. The view looking upward resembled a pastel canvas with patches of white scattered about reflective of someone dropping a paintbrush. Unbeknownst to the early risers or those still sleeping in their beds, the brightness of the morning was soon to be reduced to ashes of grey.

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Remember Pearl Harbor! Embrace the past, empower the present to enrich the future of America!

Embrace the Past…

While World War II is raging across the sea, calmness engulfs the United States of America. It is the year 1941, December 6 to be exact and it is Saturday. This day appears to be not much different than any preceding Saturday evening. In fact, it is an ordinary night for the thousands of sailors and soldiers stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Pearl Harbor is the naval base of the United States Pacific fleet located on Oahu, an island offering its inhabitants bountiful pleasures wrapped in impeccable beauty.

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

What happened next becomes a decisive pivotal point in history shifting the tides of the war. Return tomorrow for the rest of the story!

It is the most prominent landmark in Washington, DC standing as the centerpiece of the National Mall. The monument is indeed monumental measuring 555 feet 5 1/8 inches high. Fifty flags surround the base of the Washington Monument symbolizing the 50 states of America.

Have you ever heard of Moondog, Albert James “Alan” Freed or Rock ‘n’ Roll? If you have heard of one, you should know them all! The man and the term have always been associated with the 50s. Did the hip-shaking pandemonium that ensued start with this so-called Moondog? Not for a skinny minute moment! Let’s look back to the decades before the 50s exploring the music that led to the discovery of Rock and Roll, Rock & Roll, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockin’ and Rollin’.

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Some may think Rock and Roll, Rock & Roll, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Rockin’ and Rollin’ were only attributed to the decade of the 50s. Have some fun! Ask a family member or friend, even a stranger, when rock and roll originated and from what music genre it evolved.
