Welcome back to FWF. If you are new here, feel free to read the intro. Otherwise, let’s get started.
Here is your prompt…

Here is my contribution. . .
After the Storm. . .
Like a memory
The home place
Was swept away
In an instant
A flash
Without warning
In a dash
Gone but not without hope
The structure
Tattered
The windows, doors
No more
Boards mere splinters
A roof without a floor
Yet still a feeling of hope
While no material
Will soon
Be left to see
I still have you
You still have me
There indeed lies hope
We can rebuild
Start anew
The image will fade
But we hold hands
In our old age

Catnipoflife — cool poem — full of emotion yet promise of the future.
very nice, i loved 🙂
This is lovely Sharla. Holding on to old dreams not shattered ones is what it says to me.
This one hit me because of a personal experience. It was not by storm, but fire. My grandparents home place burned to the ground many, many years ago. I wrote about it in my book *Remembering*. Here are the last two verses:
The ground upon which our house stood
Was solid ground; not mud or sand.
Unfaltering faith with desire to start anew
Confirmed a firm foundation: We still had the land.
Papa and Mama knew what lay ahead,
Rebuilding, renewing, repairing were in the plan.
Yet, standing together hand-in-hand in prayer
Papa considered himself a very rich man.

Very wise man – thanks Sharla
Cool piece, loved the resiliance aspect from the total destruction
Thank you so much for your comments! They are deeply and graciously appreciated 🙂 I always find Kellie’s free write quite a challenge. Sometimes I am pleased with my results, other times I feel I am missing depth but I suppose that is a true experience for all us writers!
Love, love, love! That’s an excellent piece of writing, you definitely got me inspired!
I love the positive, holding-on-to-hope message in this one, Sharla!
UGH! Just found this one in spam! Glad I did not just auto delete 🙂
Love the hopeful ending, Sharla. The ‘things’ of this world will never truly make us happy. Great read!
Your poem resonates here, post floods of 2011 and 2013, rebuilding lives after deluges swept all that lay in their path… Beautiful write Sharla…
