Free Write Friday #24: Ponder This…

on July 13, 2013

free-write-friday-kellie-elmoreWelcome to Kellie Elmore’s Free Write Friday. Here is today’s FWF prompt…

Today you have been granted the opportunity to go anywhere, do anything, meet anyone, travel in time…whatever you wish, it is yours. Now, there’s a catch. (Isn’t there always?) When you wake up tomorrow… you will not remember any of it.

Like a Lost Dream

Do you remember—
Childhood fantasies of the past
Beginnings of the day
Visions for the future?

What have you forgotten—
Yesterdays’ lost loves
Today’s wrong words
Tomorrow’s hopes?

If given the chance
To do anything you please
Would you readily accept
Only to remember to later forget?

Is it remembering
That is important
Or grabbing the moment
Before it’s lost?

Like a Lost Dream
Quickly fading in the morning
With the only memory
Being you know you dreamed

 Mysterious yet fascinating
Leaving questions, few answers
So, given the chance
Go for it, if only for the moment

But as for me, if I can’t remember it, why bother? But that’s just how I think I guess.

  2. Terry says:

wow, this is beautiful. I would not want to wake from this dream

A great poem – loved the ending and how you wrapped the sentiment of your response up at the end.

Great blog – congratulations on all your awards!

There is the memory, but there is also the emotion behind it. If you can’t remember the picture who is to say you cannot remember the emotion? A riddle indeed. lol

  5. I feel the same way as Teepee. If I will not remember, what is the point? I decided against the offer. Memories to me, are everything.
Thank you for a beautiful reply.

I like this. There has to be more that you will walk away with than memories, so why not try it?

  7. Mark says:

Great take on the prompt, Sharla! Exploring both sides.

  8. Talicha J. says:

ah, I really enjoyed your contribution to the prompt. I too believe that even if it’s for the moment you should go for it. The fact that it could make you happy is all you need to rely on. No one’s memories are a sure thing, especially as we grow older. great job!

A great visual poem…full of hope and romance. Smiles.
