Today in History, March 9, 1959
Today is one of the few days of celebration to which a reason for this particular day actually exists. This Day in History, March 9, 1959, is the date when an 11-inch doll with a waterfall of blond hair made her debut, her name…Barbie!

Barbie has become a global icon of many faces with some body changes throughout her career. She has even acquired different cultural identities. Barbie remains, however, a fashion doll, unlike her predecessors, the baby dolls.

I loved Barbie as a young girl, and it’s no doubt part of why I love designing gowns to this day!
I love Barbie dolls. I got my first own Barbie doll when I was about 7 – and bought my first one, saved up from my pocket money, when I was about 10. I did collect Barbie dolls for a certain time, but stopped before my apartment could look like the one of a Barbie doll toy store. I still have about 20 dolls, Barbies and Kens, but they’re only here for sentimental reason.
What an amazing article, Sharla!! I love it!!
