There is probably no movie line reaching iconic status any more than the famous scene of Rhett Butler walking away from Scarlet in Gone With the Wind. And to think it was almost NOT in the movie, at least the use of the curse word. Remember, the year is 1939 with censorship at the beginning of the 20th century being much more stringent than that of today.

Love love this movie!! I never read that sequel business–but I like to think Scarlett got him back–eventually 🙂
I’ve always been grateful that they used the line as originally written in the novel. They were going to change it, but the director successfully fought the studios. It “made” the movie.
I have to admit, I doubt the scene would have left the same impression without the curse. I could imagine they have left it in the movie since they already had to make Clark Gable so many concessions, without the curse it would have been neither Rhett nor Clark saying the last sentence in this movie…
