You walk up to a door, you push and push, the door will NOT open, no matter how hard you push. Frustration sets in as you push again, even harder. You sheepishly look around to see if anybody is looking when you notice the sign on the door says: PULL.
How many times have the events of a day delegated reactions of opposite direction? Did you turn left when you should have turned right? Did you put your left foot forward when it should have been your right? Did you say ‘yes’, when you should have said ‘no’? Did you think twice or just go?
Within these musings resides one essential question:
How many times do you find yourself pushing and pushing when in actuality, it’s time to pull – to pull away, to pause, to reflect, to let go and let God?
“Pull the string, and it will follow wherever you wish. Push it, and it will go nowhere at all.”
–Dwight David Eisenhower (American 34th President (1953-61). 1890-1969)
This is wonderful! Such a timely reminder. Thank you 🙂
So glad you found inspiration:>) Have a wonderful week!
Drew me in, Sharla! Lovely share. 🙂
It’s one of those spur of the moment that hit the moment:>)
this is so much true Sharla. When we want to push always, we finish to be tired and empty inside. Good article Sharla
Thank you as always for visiting, Gys, and leaving comments. The tendency is to always push too much when we really don’t have to…
Wow, that hit me on the head. I do these type of mistakes several times but I have been able to put my frustration under control, impatience and irritation too! So, I guess I’m learning new things everyday, thanks for this awesome post 🙂
You are welcome, Aditya. Always thankful when you stop in for a visit.
This may be my very problem. 🙂
Um-m-m? Happens to all of us and we just keep on pushing and pushing. The phrase “let go and let God” actually comes from the ladybug and holds so much meaning true to everyday life! [Take a peek at https://catnipoflife.wordpress.com/?s=ladybug if you have not already done so.]
Love it and I have a feeling I do this a lot! Great post!
Glad you enjoyed, Sandra. Always welcome your visits:>)
This always happens to me, however, I never looked at it that way. Very refreshing, thank you for that!
I noticed your links for Guide to a Purposeful Life weren’t working for you, send me an email and I’ll point you in the right direction! Thanks!

Ronald, thank you for visiting catnipoflife and especially for your comments. Not sure what you mean by the links not working. Please clarify.
Sharla,
I was referring to Guide to a Purposeful Life on AMSdaily.net I am one of the contributors to that book. I saw that you posted that the LINK to buy the BOOK was not working. I was going to point you in the right direction to buy the book. Thanks!

Thank you so much, Ronald. Yes, yes, please do so. Here is my email: poetrybysharla@gmail.com
Thank you Sharla! I have pushed God away many a time when I should have pulled Him close. Hopefully those days are all gone. Lovely post, and I love the Larson cartoon! God bless you!
I think we have all have had that experience but He has a way of pulling us back in:>)
Number one, literally speaking, I have direction disorder and am always pushing doors when I should pull them, turn left when I should go left, etc. It’s a problem. Number two, I do tend to push and when I don’t get results, I feel frustrated. Pulling back at that point, letting go and letting God is such a relief. I love the quote by Eisenhower.
Peggy, so good for you to stop by for a visit! Glad you enjoyed the post and yes, I, too, like Eisenhower’s quote! Wish we had another one of him around:>)
Sharlaa,
and here I thought it was just my dyslexia :). I ‘ve been going to the same doctor for 13 years and still every time turn the wrong direction to find the exit. Something to think about–that’s for sure on so many levels.
Love, Micki
You are just too cute, Micki! Glad I provided you some soul food – good old-fashioned food for thought:>)
I find I have pushed so many times in life when a simple pull would have worked. Sometimes a person just needs to stop an examine a situation before they push a second time, Most times the answer is as a simple as a pull. Yet a baby is told 100 times “Don’t touch, Hot.” Until that baby touches hot it does not know the meaning. It is the smart baby that need not touch it twice.
What a terrific reflection! WOW! This post has really gotten some awesome feedback!
Great post, Sharla! I like your writing style, and love the way you present a wonderful message. I do believe I’ll hang around and see what else you got cookin!
Whoo! Hoo! I always delight in delighting others with my writing. BTW My first book Echoes is an inspiration from God, in fact. all my writing. I am a mathematician by ‘trade’ so I consider myself only a messenger – from His hand to mine, from my heart to yours.
I often tell folks, “I’m just the pencil.”
Hey, sounds like we are in the same boat:>)
yes, i do push,, when it says to pull!!! 🙂
A daily habit of human nature, my friend! Thank you for stopping by catnip and especially for taking time to leave a comment:>)

That is great! Thank you:>)
Boy do you know me-and most every other soul on earth! I am always pushing when in fact I should be pulling but I do not seem to be able to stop a bad habit. Hopefully with the patience of God, family and friends, I will get tired of banging my head and slow down!
Thanks for this mind share.
