Tragedies such as Hindenburg, Titanic, Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima I remember studying in school. This one was different. . .I lived it! Blessing need to go to all of those who survived and to families of those who did not.
I don’t feel like rehashing the videos and newscasts from 9/11. I don’t want us to forget what happens when when we get too complacent and let our guard down but I’ve seen it all at least 10 times. We all know exactly where we were when the tragedy happened. I still remember where I was when JFK was assassinated. We went to war because of the attack on 9/11. A lot of our sons & daughters didn’t come home as a result. I feel we should have been home a whole lot sooner. “Weapons of mas destruction”! Bunk! Didn’t we learn a thing from Vietnam? I was in Southeast Asia from 1970-1973. We were supposed to stop the spread of communism. Now we borrow money from China and are forced to buy clothing and other manufactured items from Vietnam, Cambodia & China. Our country is broken. I fear it’s all about the almighty dollar, greed and the profiteers of war getting rich. – A Vietnam Vet
Bob, I must totally agree with you about the almighty dollar and greed that is choking the life out of America’s freedoms. My dad served in WWII and he never spoke of his time of service. He was at Iwo Jima. The lives shattered by the effects of war never seem to come fully back together again. Since then too many wars on foreign soil have greatly affected America – her land and her people. It would great to get back to made in the good ol’ USA and not be so dependent on foreign shores. I salute you for serving in Viet Nam. My brother was in Laos and Cambodia. Ugly, ugly war that left an indelible mark on our country.
I’m sorry but I’ve been greatly affected. I had to move to the Pacific Northwest 6 years ago for work. You see our government sold out the textile industry in this country giving China “Favored Nation Status”. We can’t compete with a country paying their workers with a bowl of rice.
Our government also took away my Veterans medical benefits in 2005 with the stroke of a pen, requiring a ceiling cap to qualify for benefits. I risk my life for those benefits and they took them away after I out in my 4 years, 1969-1973.
Now retired I finally won a hardship plea and have Veteran’s Medical Coverage. I went two years without any coverage and ate up all my savings paying for tests, office visits and 8 prescription medications I must take every day of my life.
Now one political party wants to do away with my Social Security benefits, my only source of income. Anyone against Obamacare ought to go without for two years and see if that changes their tune. This is a life or death election for a lot of seniors. I will not risk being homeless living on the street. I’d rather take out a Republican or two and have that same government issue me prisoner rights, food, shelter & free medical care. Something sounds broken to me.
I remember two days in history perfectly: 9/11 and the day Kennedy was shot. I have forgotten so much, but those two days are crystal clear.
Those events are engrained in the memories of us who lived through the times! No way to ever forget!
A day that changed the world Sharla. I can not forget, even though I am far from your country. But I do not forget all the other wars that have decimated too many people. I live in a city that was the hub of trafficking in “black”. It really is not better. A memorial was erected in memory of all the abuse. I will soon, and I’ll be writing about it.

One of two (horrific) days I will never forget. I have just written my memories of that day, The other day was July 07 2005 – the day after we were granted the Summer Olympics 2012.
There are scenes from that day that will haunt me forever. And I was only watching on TV. For the survivors, and the families of those that didn’t survive, my heart goes out to them
Both 9/11 in the US and 7/7 in London were horrific events! It is distressing that hearts can be hardened to the extent that human life has no value.
