The Christmas season is filled with times of joyful gathering…family, friends, colleagues, co-workers, acquaintances from many different backgrounds. The main question is…why do you join others in celebration at this time of year? Is it simply feasting and partying, dressing in fancy attire, for camaraderie, perhaps time to catch up on happenin’s throughout the year? What makes it different from any other gathering? There is only one reason for this season which should remain at the top of the list, the star of the Christmas tree, the most wondrous gift of them all…
*****
May we never be so focused on getting gifts & PRESENTS
that we forget to receive…
*****
*****
…the gift of HIS PRESENCE!
*****
Spread the pure joy!
There is magic in Christmas A time for joy, a time of peace Sharing, caring, preparing As cascading snowflakes increase
*****
A star tops the Christmas tree Presents of love beneath
All in the joy of giving
Encircling like a wreath
*****
People come, people go All in the name of good cheer
Wishing Merry Christmas
And the happiest New Year
*****
Coziness of a fireplace
A warm hug, tender kiss
Christmas Eve closes in prayer
No one dares not miss
*****
While saying Merry Christmas With wishes for a Happy New Year How many celebrate birth The real reason behind all the cheer? ***** Wining, dining, feeling fine Feasting on the best When asked why YOU celebrate What do you attest?
***** Hope in Christmastime The message of the season Birth of our Savior Truly the blessed reason
Amid all the festiveness of the holiday season come times of remembrance… Christmas past, family and friends gone but not forgotten. There is an overwhelming sense of sadness that at the same time brings on smiles of the heart. The joy, the laughter, the silliness within the seriousness of the time. With Christmas, there is always music, special music. Some of the melodies have been passed down from generation to generation while new ones hit the scene with the changing times.
Loving memories of those who have passed on are rekindled everyday in music that lives on and on and on…
Gone, yet ne’er forgotten
Music that calms & heals
Soothing the very soul
With each heart it steals
Yesterday, today, tomorrow
Music starts the morning
Your songs live within us
Keeping our hearts yearning
With the Christmas season
You’re missed more ’n’ more
With melodies of the holidays
Drifting in and out the door
Gone, yet ne’er forgotten Music to relive the days Happiness within sorrow ’Til the last memory fades
Easter brings blessings to all who believe
Joy in celebration this special day
Hope in all the tomorrows to come
Wisdom in following the right way…
Comfort in the fulfilled promise
Fellowship in the spirit of love
Truth in divine faithful guidance
All by the hands from Heaven above
While enjoying Easter with family
Take a seat at Mother Nature’s table
With her intoxicating, bold “buffets”
Bountiful, readily available
Arrange a bowl of fresh cut flowers
To bring cheery greetings in early morn
Soak up pure inspirational goodness
While enjoying what sunbeams adorn
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.” — 1 Peter 2:24

Thursday, August 8, 2013 was Day 91 of my husband’s hospital/rehab confinement. That day was filled with. . .
Jim is home!
A visit from our preacher on Thursday guided me toward this being the time to let Jim know about his brother who died on May 17. David’s unexpected passing shocked him immensely and he took it very hard. He looked at me with the saddest tears in his eyes and pleaded, “Please let me be discharged so I can deal with this loss in the solitude of my own home.” It had already been decided for his release from the rehab facility to be on Wednesday of next week so other than not really being prepared there was no reason he could not go home. Many of his medications have been discontinued so that administration will actually be easier than before he went into the hospital.
Visiting Nurses Association will take over now as Jim continues with therapy. We are going to try and schedule two days a week at the hospital and three days at home. VNA will consist of a team of three members: nurse, therapist and aide.
Jim’s recovery is nothing shy of a true miracle! Even the doctors had pretty much given up hope and at one point in time, the family was called in to make a decision as to whether he should be pulled off of life support or continue in hope of his regaining memory and physical stamina.
Many battles have been won but the war is not completely over. He still faces a surgical procedure at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. This procedure will hopefully keep the past pancreatic issues from recurring.
We have been blessed in so many ways throughout Jim’s recovery and there are not enough words of gratitude for all the intercessory prayer! All praise and glory go to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Without Him, we are but a speck of dust blowing in the wind going nowhere.
Hugs and blessings to each of you!
Sharla
Is this a smile of happiness or what? This picture was taken on our back porch Friday, August 9, 2013.
catnipoflife will be on leave for awhile but hoping it will not be for an extended time. My husband, Jim, is in ICU in Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. This is approximately an 80-mile round trip from where we live. I had to have an ambulance dispatched this morning because he could not get his breath.
We remained in the ER in our home town until approximately 12 noon. By the time he arrived at the ER in Dothan, he was not breathing. He has been put on a respiratory machine which is doing the breathing for him. He had to have a procedure called Thoracintesis to drain a liter and a half of fluid from his lungs. He is stable and resting.
I came home because they would not let me stay, of course, in ICU. I will be going back in the morning and will post updates as I know more.
Today’s posting at catnipoflife is a tribute in memory of Sandra McLeod Humphrey. I feel very honored to have known Sandra even if for only a short period of time. I encourage you to visit her website Dare to Dream Big! If you did not know Sandy, there would be no better way to celebrate her life than to acquaint yourself with her writing by visiting her blog @ http://www.kidscandoit.com/blog/. Then, I encourage all, whether you knew her or not, to order one of her books as a Christmas gift for a friend, loved one or family member. What a great tribute that would be for Sandy!
Here is a brief account of the tragic death of Sandra and her husband, as well as a little insight into her remarkable writing.
******************
“Tragedy has taken the life of award-winning children’s book author Sandra McLeod Humphrey and her husband, Brian Humphrey. Both were killed in a house fire on November 23. The couple’s single-family home in Minnetonka, MN, was in flames at 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to news sources, including the Minneapolis/St. Paul TV network KARE 11. No official cause of the blaze has been released.”
Sandra is best known for her overwhelming desire, knowledge and talent for writing books to build strong character. She has written many award-winning books to help empower young people to believe in themselves and to make good choices. Although her books cover many different subjects and span different age groups, they all have one thing in common: they are written to get young people thinking and talking about important social and moral issues and to help them be the best they can be!
Sandra, you will be deeply missed but your dream lives on!
Emotions run deep in the minds, hearts and souls throughout America as we approach Veterans Day. Let’s begin this weekend reflecting on the events that led to the establishment of this day’s celebration.
