It’s all about the box!

Cats! What adorable creatures! Whether kittens or full grown, our feline friends bring joy and happiness with their cuddliness and antics. Being easily spoiled, each is susceptible to ‘owning’ a plethora of toys. As cat lovers, we all have meow, meow, meow stories/moments to share. We dote upon THE cat with what the cat deserves…THE best, THE craziest, THE funniest…the search is on for the most unique toy! One of the best cat toys on the planet doesn’t cost anything extra, doesn’t warrant a drive to the store, doesn’t require a lot of thought, doesn’t need batteries, doesn’t require any tools to put together and best of all is probably right now, today, this minute, somewhere in your house waiting to be had!

Cats Love Boxes

Cats love boxes
Small, medium, large
Size doesn’t matter
The cat is in charge

Inside, outside
Tipsy turvy
With holes, without
Straight or curvy

Big cat, small box
Large box, small cat
Same size, any size
Slap spat, that’s that

Skinny cat, fat cat
GOOD TIMES roll
In pure attack mode
Goin’ for the goal

Pouncin, stalkin’
Havin’ a ball
Climbin’, slappin’
None too short or tall

Hard work, at play
Time for a rest
Smaller the box
Cozier the nest

Always one
Fits just right
Safe and secure
Nite! Nite!

Scaredy-cat or Scared Cat

scaredy-catThere are “scaredy-cats” and then there are scared cats. As humans, some of us are startled or frightened by a slight change or movement, even to the point of being afraid of anything and everything. Others take it with a grain of salt. Cats are among those that frighten very easily.

When startled, cats usually jump (often quite high), stumble over their own feet and scamper as fast as their little legs will carry them. Their expressions are indeed priceless! Yes! Cats have expressions…anyone who says cats are expressionless have never truly watched the face of a cat. In the close-ups within the video, focus on the eyes and ears. There are moments that will make you bend double laughing while others will bring on an aw-w-w-w moment.

For your added enjoyment, a step back in the past to the Scaredy Cat in the cartoons…

Inspiration: Solace in Winter

How do you greet Winter—

Bitter, drab and dreary
Frosty sights and sounds
Anything but cheery…

 A silent ghostly presence
Chilling to the bone
Outwardly uninviting
Wishing it ‘Be gone!’?

Br-r-r-r-r is the sound
Silvery is the sight
From dawn to dusk
Bitterness through the night

This hoary side to Winter
Is that all there is to see
A shroud of dreariness
Heaviness of heart to be?

Solace in Winter
Restores warmth to the very soul
Lifting up heavy hearts
As magical moments unfold

Yes, indeed, Winter brings chills to the bone but with it comes extraordinary beauty, grace and even a sense of magic. For those encountering snow, early, early morning reveals a new dusting of silvery white from Nature’s paintbrush swishing over, under, around and through everything in sight. Ice-glazed water glistens in the daylight as tiny birds peck away for a single droplet. The gracefulness of snowflakes whirl and twirl around and around floating effortlessly, landing softly one atop another. Person after person stroll in the midst, bundled up like Eskimos, giggling as the cold bites each nose and resemble the main characters within a magical snow globe scene.

Of course, we know there is a flip side to the coin depicting this scene. Whipping winds, fast-falling stinging snow, blizzard warnings, subzero wind chills do not seem so inviting. Shoveling snow, scrapping windshields, steering away from snow banks, donning three to four layers of clothing are commonplace when treks outdoors must be made.

Regardless of the coin’s side, there is solace in Winter that touches the soul even in its coldest moments…

Where do you find solace in Winter?

Do you put pork on your fork?

Awakenings, catnipoflife‘s sister site, featured a post about New Year’s traditions related to meal time, Did you Put Pork on Your Fork?. It seems pork is the traditional meat for various reasons, outbidding chicken and turkey, on this first day of the New Year. I really have a problem with the pork-eating business. Sure it tastes good and what better flavor is there anywhere other than bacon? It’s not the taste. Not even the fact it is a fatty, extremely fatty, meat. Then, why? You might ask. It is simply that the little piggies are just so darn cute! See for yourself…

The Only Limit

PushLimits2

There are times when each of us feel we have done all we can do, we can do no more, we have reached our limits. We are tired, absolutely pooped, ready to give up, give in, settle for less.

We feel we have come to our road’s end with no branches leading in a new or different direction, no ‘y’ in the road, only a dead end. But even at the end of a dead-end road, there is something beyond.

The only blockade is that which we allow in our own minds. The voice that says STOP, you can go no further, you have reached your limits. This is the moment when you push through the things blocking your way and forge ahead.

PowerNow, I ask you, Have you reached your limits?”

Goals

The only limit is the one you set yourself!

FollowYourPath

The limit you set
is that of your own
whether high or low
its time will come

Within your limits
new horizons await
inner thoughts
say never too late

Be on the lookout
ever watchful you see
for what lies ahead
is what’s meant to be

Look to tomorrow
unafraid to explore
push your limits
farther than the day before

Awakenings: A Song, Two Jaguars, One Girl | Quick post to end the day – This Day in History, October 10, 1987

Are you familiar with the song “Here I Go Again” by English hard-rock group Whitesnake? On this day in 1987, it hit the Billboard pop singles chart in the US. If you don’t remember the song, perhaps the saucy video will jog your memory. See on awakenings2012.blogspot.com

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

What catches your attention the most – the song, the cars, the girl?
