Catnipoflife invites you to visit her sister site, Awakenings. Ah-h-h-h! The American classics – where would we be without them? Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet, all have their place among America’s iconic figures. From books to poetry to songs to movies and videos, each has its place among America’s favorites.
It was while I was visiting various blogsites that I was prompted to revisit the posting at Awakenings. Dicy McCullough’s post for the day was Braves’ Game: Favorite Thing #4. It brought back so many memories, especially of my late sister-in-law. She dearly loved the Braves. If a game was on and she had to go to the bathroom, the radio was right there with her! I have never known anyone as devoted as she. The sad part is she never did get to see a game live but she dutifully listened to their games.
With or without the baseball game, there is no better treat, at the table or on a picnic, than the all American hot dog. Whether grilled, broiled, boiled or fried, Chicago style, coney dog or your own home style, the feeling of biting into that ‘dog’ is all American!
Don’t know what to prepare for dinner tonight? Grab a hot dog! Give and receive a smile!
Added bit of Trivia: The hog dog is no longer just a ‘dog in a bun’. Numerous hot dog variations can be found state to state, across the nation, country to country and around the globe. Enjoy to their fullest!
What is your favorite ‘dog’?
My favorite hot dog is the kind encased in skin that pops open on the grill. I like it blackened, in a bun with yellow mustard and onions. Now I feel like running to the market to buy a pack.
That is MY kinda dog! The skin must pop:>) Guess what I am having for lunch tomorrow? Yep, hot dogs!
Last Tuesday was our “Neighborhood Night Out” picnic complete with huge brautwursts (hope I spelled that right) with cheese–that’s got to be the epitome of Hot Dog Heaven!
Bratwurst are good but I still prefer the all beef dog. It has to be in the casing that pops when you bite it. LOL:>)
we just had chili dogs with hubbies home made chili
Ooooh! My hubby makes that good ol’ hot dog chilli, too! Wish we were closer for a taste test of each:>)
Yummy! I’ve been craving a hot dog all summer! A nice, juicy one with sauerkraut and dark mustard, or green relish and yelow mustard. We get the famous Nathan’s hot dogs that have tough skins that ‘pop’ on the grill. Alas, I have to eat very low salt-so all I get is a small bite of someone else’s hot dog. I tried soy hot dogs, called pups, but they only look like the real thing. Darn it, now i’m salivating!!
You are always so funny, MIcki! I replied to Peggy that hot dogs are the ticket for tomorrow. If it wasn’t so late, I would have one right now! Yep, the ones with the casing are definitely the best and you gotta’ have that mustard:>)
Bonjour Sharla When I see what you eat, it makes me laugh and I tell myself it is a scandal to a French worthy of the name. laugh 🙂
Si vrai! But we cannot claim or name those wonderful French pastries! Ah-h-h!
Now I’m blushing… I’m feeling deeply ashamed…. am I the only one who doesn’t eat sausages let alone hot dogs and things Baseball is boring. *sigh*
Please tell me I’m not as stupid as the sentence above sounds… 😦
Hey There Sharla,
That’s the southern way- eating hot dogs!
Splitting a dog from almost end to end not all the way through and filling with cheese, BBQ and wrap in a long bun buried in mustard and a home made chili and onions! Apple pie, ice cream and watermelon for dessert! Or just a plain dog with onion and a ton of mustard! What’s for dinner tonight?? Guess?
