Porcelain Unicorn

on November 2, 2012

It never ceases to amaze me how some things come full circle when least expected. I received the video link, Porcelain Unicorn, in an email message last April and filed it away in a personal folder because it is so compelling. Intentions were to revisit it during some quiet down time. This morning that revisitation occurred while trying desperately to find daylight at the end of the mega messages in my email Inbox.

Here is the background. . .

Legendary British film director Sir Ridley Scott launched a global film making contest for aspiring directors. It’s titled “Tell It Your Way.” There were over 600 entries.

The film could

  • be no longer than three minutes,
  • contain only six lines of narrative and
  • be a compelling story.

The winner was “Porcelain Unicorn” from American director Keegan Wilcox.

It’s a story of the lifetimes of two people (1930 – 1945) who are totally opposite, yet, very much the same – all told in less than 3 minutes.

Mythical symbol of magic
Enchanting in the realm of fairies
The unicorn imbues in dreams
Reflections of pure innocence

  4. This is great Sharla. Loved it. Did you know C.S. Lewis (Christian apologist) wrote a poem about The Unicorn? It is wonderful…and of course, he was hinting that the unicorn was a representation of something much greater than magic See poem here: http://yourdailycslewis.blogspot.com/2005/08/late-passenger.html See reference/research of unicorn here: http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/articles/22927322/myth-maker-unicorn-maker-c-s-lewis-reshaping-medieval-thought

It’s a shame this beautiful short film was preceded by a political hate ad. – Bob

I knew it had been around since the award was presented in 2010. However, there are some that may not have seen it and of course, it is always just as compelling the second time around!

Since you’ve chosen not to drop the version with the hate political ad I’ve decided to stop following your blog. – Bob

I think you’ve found the same one I found, without the political ad. Thanks for the edit. – Bob
