Gary Sinise Honors Veterans at National Memorial Day Concert

Jeannette Anderson, writer/blogger, posted a marvelous video today on Google+. Upon watching the video there was no doubt it should be aired on Awakenings. Tomorrow is Memorial Day but first, it is important to understand Memorial Day vs. Veterans’ Day.

blockquote_icon“Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military – in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty…”

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Display the American flag proudly for our fallen heroes! That is the least one can do on Memorial Day!

Beautiful post my friend, how are you doing? xx

This has become the most difficult time of my life. Watching my husband slowly decline not knowing if he will know me from one minute to the next is devastating. His delirium is just not lessening to any degree and to top everything off with him, I received word yesterday the his closest brother was found dead after having passed away three days prior. In other words, he was dead for three days before anyone found him. No one knows at this point what happened.

I love you, be strong. Sharla, I went through this myself several years ago with my husband. I do understand, my sister in heart. Know – you are there for him. Jim “knows” you are there (even when you think he doesn’t, believe this to be true. I am so very sorry about the loss of your brother-in-law and the sad circumstances. We will never understand the “why” of so many things Sharla, I guess we aren’t meant to. Share your love with Jim now by being there as you are able, and yes it is exhausting and painful beyond words. Hang on dear friend, breath in love and hope, breath out pain and despair. Take each moment as it comes and please take care of you. Sending you the warmth of a sunny day and sweet gentle blessings. Love, Penny

Penny, you cannot imagine what your words mean to me. I know what I must do and I pray for endurance every day. Jim needs me by his side more than ever and I treasure each moment spent with him because they are so limited with his being in ICU. Thank you, dear friend!

You’re welcome Sharla, I’m here if you need me my friend! 🙂

Wonderful post and everything Penny says, I second it as there is nothing I could say that she hasn’t covered. I love you and pray for Jim and you constantly. Claim a miracle from God and if it’s His will, he will give it to you.

    Love, Micki

Sharla, wishing you strength to go through this difficult time, and my thoughts and prayers are with you too. I agree with Penny, cherish each moment together and do look after yourself too! Much love Ute x
