When it comes to Rap, you either love it or hate it yet it is undeniably one of the most popular genres of music to date. The History of Rap finds the term dating as early as the 15th and 16th century in Britain. In the US, it emerged in the black community in the 60s. At that time, rap was used mostly as a slang word meaning to talk with someone, having a conversation.
And the rest is history. What record companies thought was just a fad rapidly grew into the most popular music genre of this decade. Rap music’s beginnings were humble and focused on bringing families together and uplifting each other’s spirits in times of heartache and pain.
