Arrival of the “Ghost Dance

This Day in History: December 29, 1890 –
Massacre at Wounded Knee

How did it begin, this hate for the Indian nation?  They were, after all, native to America well before the arrival of the “white man.”

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Such senseless killing and for what end? And the senselessness has not stopped to this day!

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Each of us relishes memories of our favorite Santa moment. One most cherished is perhaps the preparation and presentation of the ever popular plate of cookies and glass of milk. Read MORE @ Awakenings where Peggy Stack, author of A Stop in the Park, is the featured author of the day.

Awakenings: Imagine John Lennon

On this day in 1980, Beatles star John Lennon was brutally shot to death by an obsessed fan outside the Dakota Building in New York City. The world mourned the tragic death of a man who imagined only peace.

Awakenings: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

See on Scoop.itAmerica

The Date of Infamy that launched an epic conflict with Japan took place here in the early morning hours of December 7, 1941. The tranquil waters of Pearl Harbor were forever disrupted by the tides of war. The USS Arizona and 1,177 of her crew were among the first casualties of the Pacific War; the USS Arizona Memorial stands above the sunken vessel and her fallen sailors, serving as a reminder of their sacrifice and commitment.

Awakenings: Remember Their Sacrifice

See on Scoop.itAmerica

There are not enough words to express the emotion felt in reading and/or listening to the poem  A Soldier’s Christmas. The words of the poet are emotional enough within themselves.  [This poem is different from one posted previously.]

On the eve of the anniversary of a monumental date in history, December 7, 1941 (Attack on Pearl Harbor), we should all stop and be thankful for the sacrifices made ensuring America’s freedom remains intact.

A Soldier’s Christmas

Poets from around the world… A Soldier’s Christmas Poem
posted December 4, 2012 by poetreecreations

I would like to dedicate this poem to those who have served in the past, presently serve, or will serve our military forces in the future. A profound appreciation is extended for the sacrifice of these brave men and women who left or will leave their homes and family to ensure America’s freedom endures.

A grave price is being paid every moment of every day of the year for all the freedom America has to offer. Let us not forget those who have fought or are fighting for our nation; they are the epitome of the human spirit called freedom!
