Awakenings: Awakenings Breaks 300,000 Hits!

Awakenings was birthed on November 18, 2011 taking baby steps with its first 5 blog posts being aired before the end of the year. Since that time postings have reached over 1500! When I first started, I felt as green as the “Green Hornet” but not nearly as confident as the crime-fighter himself.

On Saturday, October 13, 2012, Awakenings’ hits reached the first milestone…10,000 hits. Next came 100,000, then 200,000 and now here I am today celebrating…300,000 and still counting!

Awakenings: Kindness on Friday the 13th…

Today World Kindness Day falls on…

Friday the 13th!

Throughout most of recorded history, it has been common knowledge that the number 13 itself is associated with bad luck. There is even a name for people who live in fear of the number 13: They suffer fromTriskaidekaphobia. No one seems to be too concerned with Monday the 13th, Tuesday the 13th, etc. but Friday the 13th is a different story. Continued @Awakenings…

Are you superstitious? If so, then, Friday the 13th is a day you do not look forward to at all. Whatever your belief, shed the fear and

Spread the kindness…

Awakenings: In the Name of Sacrifice…

Let us be thankful to our nation’s Veterans for their service! Set aside a few moments now, tomorrow and every day thereafter in recognition and appreciation of those who sacrificed and are sacrificing every day ensuring the rights and freedoms in America will be protected for generations to come. The fight to maintain freedom is not just for today, it is for America’s future.

Bath Time

Cats are adorable and loveable offering the best cuddles ever but most of all, they are very independent. Their likes and dislikes are solely dependent on the nature of each individual feline. This is especially true at bath time. Take a peek at two extremes but get ready to LOL, then, enjoy the AW-W-W-W-W moment!

Awakenings: Honoring Memorial Day!

‘Happy’ routinely appears preceding the words Memorial Day. There is absolutely no way around it. BUT…is that the proper precedent to Memorial Day? We are happy to live in America. We happily enjoy all the freedoms America has to offer. Joyous are we getting prepared for time with family and friends: walking the beach, swimming, picnicking, bar-be-queuing, etc. In the midst of all the food, fun, fellowship associated with Memorial Day, let’s not forget who are the true honorees!

Source: awakenings2012.blogspot.com

Be in the know for this day’s special celebration! It goes way beyond the food, fun, fellowship. The happiness associated with Memorial Day has come at an immense sacrifice. Tomorrow is Memorial Day but first, it is important to understand Memorial Day vs. Veterans’ Day and the true meaning behind Memorial Day!

Awakenings: King of the Blues…Remembered

“We all have idols. Play like anyone you care about, but try to be yourself while you’re doing it.”
~B. B. King

Around the end of the 19th century, a musical form known as the ‘Blues’ originated in the African-American communities in the "Deep South" of the United States. At the heart of documenting the essence of the blues is a recording artist who has been at the top for decades. Even the mention of R&B brings his name immediately to mind…the legendary B. B. King!

Awakenings: March is…

Within the month of March comes the first official day of Spring! Celebration after celebration abounds before during and after the famous St. Patrick’s Day. Of course, signs are already in the picture as Mother Nature’s Delights bring forth sunshine inside and out on the last of the cold wintry days. First buds in some regions of the nation have already begun to appear with speck after speck of green peeping out from the cold, cold ground.

Ol’ Man Winter

[Image Credits: Photos for this post are credited to Garry & Marilyn Armstrong. You are invited to visit both at Serendipity. You will definitely enjoy the visit and be sure to tell them catnip sent you…purr-r-r-r-r-r-r]

Stories of ancient gods of winter have transformed into the personifications of the season, Ol’ Man Winter and Jack Frost. The beginning of January finds most areas of the country experiencing visits from both…Ol’ Man Winter knock, knock, knocking at their doors, along with Jack Frost spreading his blanket of white over ground after ground covering sight after sight.

Rows of barren trees
 Stretch along the shoreline
Casting shadowy figures
Amid bold Winter blue

Astronomically winter officially began on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014. However, some portions of the U.S. have been gripped by an icy chill and snow since November. The br-r-r-r-r cold atmosphere, snow covered driveways and vehicles have made it difficult to look past the bleakness of Winter. Yet, sometimes it takes no more than just a little imagination to turn the colors of grey into something of beauty.

Clumps of snow and ice
Cling to bare branches
Like popcorn balls
Waiting to be salted

There is actually beauty under the Winter sun that can only be encountered in the coldest season of the year. Relish in the Winter spirit…the sights and the sounds. Take in a deep breath. Let the cold, crisp air refresh the lungs during a quiet walk where the only sounds are the crunching of ice crystals underfoot. Listen to the wind-chimes as the North Wind sends a swift brush of cold through the air. Examine every tree, shrub, plant and field as it displays its own uniqueness having been gently touched by nature’s paintbrush of downy white.

Through the mystic woods
Filter rays of Winter sun
Spring scenes lie dormant
Beneath a driftness of white

Jack Frost invites you to experience the pristine side of Winter. . .

Awakenings: Toast the New Year!

December 31 is…

National Champagne Day

With the celebration of New Year’s Eve comes the ever popular toast of the evening as flutes are raised containing the quintessential wine of celebration and good cheer…festive, bright, sparkling CHAMPAGNE! There are many sparkling wines on the market but there is only one champagne and it is produced exclusively within the Champagne region of France, from which it takes its name.

Source: awakenings2012.blogspot.com

There is a bit of controversy over this day’s celebration. It is thought the reason everyone celebrates December 31st as National Champagne Day is because of the New Year’s Eve saying – "It’s Champagne Day!" It is champagne day as far as the New Year’s celebration goes but as far as the National Holiday, it is more likely August 4.
