Hug Your Cat Day

Awakenings, catnip’s sister site, posts What’s Happenin’ on a fairly regular basis. Included are funny days, weird celebrations, wacky holidays and lots of food & chocolate. Often some appear that are actually ordinary and serve as a reminder. Since catnip is such a lover of our feline, fur-r-ry friend the cat it is only fitting to recognize here that today is…

Hug Your Cat Day

If you don’t own a cat, Hug Someone Else’s Cat! (Some celebrate Hug Your Cat Day on June 4th. Feel free to celebrate both.)

Sam-SuperkittyIn honor of Hug Your Cat Day, I would like to introduce you to Marion Lovato and her first published book, Sam, the Superkitty. Sam, aka Sammy, is the ‘superhero’ in the tale of a brave cat who is able to overcome obstacles and secure confidence in himself, and in others, by crusading as his alter ego, Sam, The Superkitty.

In the face of the many perils that go bump in the night, Sam, The Superkitty, proves himself a courageous force to be reckoned with. But, he must never let his family know that he is truly a superhero…

Meet the author…Marion-Lovato

After retiring from the fifth largest school district in the country, Marion Lovato decided to try her hand at writing children’s books. Sam, The Superkitty is the first in a series based on her youngest cat, Sammy. Combining some of his antics with her imagination, Marion has produced a book for all ages.  (Reading level is third grade.) She hopes to have the next book in the series out next year. Today is a quiet day…a co-o-o-old day so definitely a day to stay inside simply enjoying the warmth of hearth and home. Just finished reading The 12-ft Teepee by +Marilyn Armstrong (featured below) and thought I would take some time to visit blogs I am following. How surprised I was upon coming across The Lost Spirits @A Misbehaved Woman.

What better topic to revisit than that of the American Indians?

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Featured author @Awakenings is Marilyn Armstrong and her book The 12-ft Teepee. Visit Marilyn @Serendipity where you can become lost in her words of wisdom, humor, photography, book reviews, author interviews, Americana, nature, pets, and so much more!

For All Writers Out There …Rethink the haibun and haiku!

Penny @TheWhyAboutThis threw out a line this evening complete with bait and hook. I bit! She talks about A writer’s gift – yours! Then presents a challenge surrounding an image prompt. Thank you, Penny, for offering an opportunity to stretch even further wielding the mighty sword of the pen.

My view out the airplane window glimpses cotton candy clouds bringing about nostalgic thoughts when once a child. The fluffy white puffs glide effortlessly against a backdrop of clear blue sky. I see a puppy with its floppy ears and stubby tail much like my little Snookie who lived with us until old age. Hey, there’s Mickey Mouse. Can’t hide those ears, Mickey!

I smile and giggle inside not to disturb any of the other passengers. One lady glances my way with a sneering look that snarls “What are you smiling about?

I would like to tell her what I am smiling about! Life. Love. Laughter. Tears. Sorrow. Happiness in tomorrow. Everything that makes living worthwhile. Helping. Lending. Comforting. Mending.

I look her square in the eye and grin. A Cheshire grin! Then, turn back toward the cotton candy clouds of my imagination.

Clouds glide mid-air
Rippling motions, life emotions
Aping a lazy stream

Awakenings: St. Patrick’s Day, Green Beer and Blue Mead by R. L. Cherry

Author Spotlight: R. L. Cherry

St. Patrick’s Day, originally a feast day of the Catholic church, has become a major American drunken  celebration. Before I get into the down and dirty, let me assure you that St. Patrick never drank green beer. In fact, drinkers in ancient Ireland had a choice of ale (no hops) or mead (honey based), unless they wanted to pony up for imported wine. So beer is obviously not an ancient Irish tradition. How about the color green? Is it Irish because Ireland is called the Emerald Isle? This is a question that is still up for debate.

Sharla Shults‘s insight:

Love all the tidbits of history that I absolutely did NOT know! You, too, may find yourself quite surprised!
