After sitting through the latest three-hour blockbuster, it’s hard to believe that in the early days of movie making all films were short. Everything from newsreels and comedies to serialised dramas and adventure stories.
And there’s more: huge shifts in film distribution options have changed how we make and think about short films. Perhaps we should consider going back to more of those short films. With the repetitiveness of sex, violence, and the same story line over and over, one falls asleep or walks out way before the movie is over.

Lighthouses have been the sentinels, the protectors, of shoreline after shoreline for centuries upon centuries. In the beginning, these were not ‘houses’ at all but instead simply bonfires built on hillsides as beacons to guide ships. Many a seafaring vessel would have crashed upon the rocks had it not been for the angel of light shining through the darkest of night or penetrating the thickest fog. Throughout history, the lighthouse has cast mysterious auras, sometimes romantic and often times echoing a ghostly resonance.
Have you ever vacationed or lived near a lighthouse? If so, did you sense its romanticism or feel a ghostly presence?

Peggy Strack’s Kick Back Moments features The President Kennedy, James Bond & St. Patrick’s Day Connection. I dare say I would have never put these three together as having any kind of connection. Maybe JFK and St. Patrick’s Day because of the Irish connection. But James Bond? Um-m-m-m? Now that raises some eyebrows.
How much do you know about James Bond or his creator Ian Fleming? Do you think Mr. Fleming’s books were an instant success? Did he reach #1 best seller with his first book? Were his works ever criticized?
My favorite James Bond will always be Sean Connery. How about you?

This Day in History: March 9th 1959 – Barbie Debuts
The Barbie doll, what an iconic figure! Yet, amidst her beauty has definitely been her share of criticism. Comparatively speaking, with a figure of 39-21-33 if she were a real woman, it is no wonder this little beauty led to a lot of controversy. Many felt Barbie provided little girls with an unrealistic and harmful example thereby fostering a negative body image.
Do you know the real story behind the Barbie doll? The picture to the left is NOT Barbie. Who is she and what is her connection to the iconic Barbie we knew as a child and is still a favorite of young girls today?
The little ‘lady’ in the picture is “Lilli – a German post-war, sassy and ambitious cartoon character that had no reservations talking about sex.”

By definition, the term diva originally represented great female opera singers, almost always sopranos. Today’s “diva” describes any extremely independent and wildly talented woman. And, that is Johnna Crider, founder of A4TH (Art4TheHomeless).
Support those organizations already established for the purpose of helping the homeless. These people may be experiencing temporary homelessness or chronic homelessness. The numbers fluctuate since many persons are just one serious illness or job loss away from becoming homeless.

Summer time, open-air beach parties, warm nights, cold beer and a hot date! With or without the beer, that was the era of the Carolina shag. An outdoor pavilion with the roar of the ocean waves in the background set the stage to dance your heart away hand-in-hand with your favorite gal or beau.
During the 50s, the “Shag” became such a way of life to so many people that it is hard to imagine a time before “Beach Music” and pink shoes.
