Awakenings: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

See on Scoop.itAmerica

The Date of Infamy that launched an epic conflict with Japan took place here in the early morning hours of December 7, 1941. The tranquil waters of Pearl Harbor were forever disrupted by the tides of war. The USS Arizona and 1,177 of her crew were among the first casualties of the Pacific War; the USS Arizona Memorial stands above the sunken vessel and her fallen sailors, serving as a reminder of their sacrifice and commitment.

Awakenings: Remember Their Sacrifice

See on Scoop.itAmerica

There are not enough words to express the emotion felt in reading and/or listening to the poem  A Soldier’s Christmas. The words of the poet are emotional enough within themselves.  [This poem is different from one posted previously.]

On the eve of the anniversary of a monumental date in history, December 7, 1941 (Attack on Pearl Harbor), we should all stop and be thankful for the sacrifices made ensuring America’s freedom remains intact.

A Soldier’s Christmas

Poets from around the world… A Soldier’s Christmas Poem
posted December 4, 2012 by poetreecreations

I would like to dedicate this poem to those who have served in the past, presently serve, or will serve our military forces in the future. A profound appreciation is extended for the sacrifice of these brave men and women who left or will leave their homes and family to ensure America’s freedom endures.

A grave price is being paid every moment of every day of the year for all the freedom America has to offer. Let us not forget those who have fought or are fighting for our nation; they are the epitome of the human spirit called freedom!

Awakenings: Winter Awakenings

See on Scoop.itAmerica

Winter’s awakenings have come with the first signs of snow knocking at the door in many parts of the country. The coldest part of the year brings with it short days and long nights, hazardous driving, shoveling driveways/walkways, bundling up from head-to-toe, chills and fever, cozy fireplaces, and so much more BUT not without intermingling wonder, amazement and excitement.

TGIF

ARE YOU READY?

T.G.I.F. is a most familiar acronym!

Has this day always represented the ‘end’ of the work week?

Ever wonder where this T.G.I.F. (“Thank God It’s Friday”) catchphrase originated?

In today’s society, “weekends” are taken for granted. However, that luxury has NOT always been recognized. The work week was once Monday through Saturday with work, especially on farms, starting before the sun came up and not ending until sundown. Jobs ‘back in the day’ consisted of positions, such as…

Awakenings: What is your brew?

See on Scoop.itAmerica

What is your favorite brew – coffee, tea or hot chocolate? Pros, cons and trivia  fun facts. . .

Coffee, tea, hot cocoa  – yum- yum, each carries with it an aroma and goodness that is possibly only surpassed by pure chocolate! Ah-ha! Then, there is the addition of extra chocolate to any of the aforementioned that makes it all the more sinful!
