Free Write Friday #12: Word Bank

Today has been a day of agony. . .a day of grief. . .a day without warning. For Kellie Elmore’s Free Write Friday this week, she has chosen a word bank that without hesitation reflects on the horrific events of this day.

WordBank

bewitched – agony – awe – dismay – jaded – enamored – sacred – nirvana – fury

Feelings & Emotions

bth_dividers

The agony felt today
Is in no way easily expressed
Lives of innocent children taken
Left families torn and distressed

Is life no longer sacred?
Are we no longer impressed
By life’s awe and glory
Instead lonely and depressed?

A day etched with dismay
Forbids whispers of nirvana
Unwanted raging tears
Abandon joyful persona

Life’s jaded texture
Neither bewitched nor enamored
Resolved destiny’s fury
On a day forever remembered

Candle for Connecticut. In Memory.

It only takes a split second, a fleeting moment for lives to be forever changed. Hold on to every second, cherish the moment, for all too quickly it shall pass. Got something to say, say it! Want to give someone a hug, give it! Need to pay someone a visit, do it! Do NOT hesitate!

My heart bleeds for the families, friends and loved ones of those whose lives were taken so abruptly in a moment of someone’s sheer madness. So many questions, so few answers for those whose lives have been shattered. Please hold them dear to your heart with prayer to offer comfort in this hour of such dire need.

The expression “We’ve come a long way, baby!” definitely holds true on this day! ‘First in flight’ actually began in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, December 17, 1903 but more to come on this topic on its anniversary date.   For today…

Do you know which airlines was first in domestic jet flight?

A Treasury of Thoughts: Butterfly Moments

Echoes of Life

The Beauty of Nature: Do you see what I see?

************************

Moments Captured

’Tis hard to encapsulate a full day
From morning dew to midnight sky
A nimiety of snapshots exist
Each caught in a blink of an eye

Above still dark trees and somber sky
Diffused light of early morn emerges
Beetles nibble on dark-green foliage
Sensations of nature’s splendor surges

Morning glories stretch and yawn
Unfurling shades of fuchsia that glow
Bees fly toward the inner beacon
Extracting nectarines deep below

Atala butterflies hover in the wind
Blue-green incandescence on their wings
Red-orange abdomens expand in the sun
Exploiting new life that morning brings

An angel of light appears in the midst
Casting sunbeams that overcome shadows
Ladybirds feed on the whitefly and aphids
Revealing beneath their wings moments captured

Free Write Friday #11: Waiting Bridges

FreeWriteFridayBadge

Kellie Elmore sends out a notice of the Free Write Friday usually on Thursday evening. This opens the door to collecting thoughts and focusing on the writing prompt. Sometimes the image or prompted words click and the writing flows immediately. Other times it takes a day or so to get it all together mentally…remember, it is suppose to be a free write not necessarily to be posted on that Friday. So, here I am on Sunday with emails shouting to be opened and I just don’t want to go there. Of course, the longer I delay the faster the numbers will grow. *sigh*

So, without further adieu…

This week the Free Write is inspired by “WAITING BRIDGES.” If you are not familiar with the free write challenge, feel free to read the intro on Kellie’s website.

In short, here is what is expected. . .

Do not think. Do not edit. Do not pay attention to spelling, punctuation or form. Just allow the moment, your feelings, your imagination to run free and…

Do not stop until you find yourself forcing your words or trying too hard to complete a thought.

Waiting Bridges

A bridge joins
A bridge divides
Alone, sometimes abandoned
It never hides

It connects
It separates
Remains trustworthy
Always advocates

Stalwartly it stands
Mighty in its braces
Reflections of the past
It solemnly embraces

Presently it’s cold
Not by the weather
It stands and waits
For two to cross together

Silently it waits
Those the future bring
Travelers who cross
While its timbers sing

Don’t Give Up!

NeverGiveUp

Have you ever thought about just giving up, throwing in the towel, dumping the whole batch, starting all over again? I suppose at one time or another we have all found ourselves at the bottom of the barrel with no hope of climbing out sinking deeper and deeper or swimming around in circles.

At the end of every rope
Is a single strand called hope
It may be frayed even torn
Yet hangs on for the forlorn

Next time you’re down
Losing your smile to a lonely frown
Remember that strand called hope
Grab on, hold tight , ne’er let go the rope

Awakenings: Imagine John Lennon

On this day in 1980, Beatles star John Lennon was brutally shot to death by an obsessed fan outside the Dakota Building in New York City. The world mourned the tragic death of a man who imagined only peace.

I Can’t Believe We Made It. . .

ITS THE TRUTH and WE SURVIVED! I know because I am one of them, are you?
 Were you born 1930 – 1979?

Marilyn Armstrong's avatarSerendipity - Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth

I’m not one of those people who romanticizes the 1950s, but there are some truths worth remembering and revisiting.

I grew up in a very different world. Play meant using imagination. It mean physical activity. Jump rope, hide and seek, tag, Stick ball (no one owned a real bat). Stoop ball, jacks. Building a “fort” or climbing a tree. Cowboys and indians. Toys were simple, not electronic. Getting a new doll was a real thrill. She never needed a reboot, unless you count having to find her lost shoe.

If you were having a hard time with the bullies in school, you got up, got dressed and went to school. It didn’t mean you weren’t scared. I was plenty scared. It simply wasn’t a parent problem … it was mine. Yours. Ours.

Marilyn - Senior YearYou didn’t get a lot of pats on the back for “trying hard.” You might get an “attaboy”…

Awakenings: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy

See on Scoop.itAmerica

The Date of Infamy that launched an epic conflict with Japan took place here in the early morning hours of December 7, 1941. The tranquil waters of Pearl Harbor were forever disrupted by the tides of war. The USS Arizona and 1,177 of her crew were among the first casualties of the Pacific War; the USS Arizona Memorial stands above the sunken vessel and her fallen sailors, serving as a reminder of their sacrifice and commitment.
