With motherhood comes moments of happiness and smiles, as well as tears of joy and sorrow. On this day, may all Mothers be remembered for moments of rejoicing, struggles, sacrifices and unconditional love.

Motherhood — the Oldest Profession
By Micki Peluso, author of “…And the Whippoorwill Sang“
This Sunday mother’s throughout the country will be honored in many and various ways. Toddlers and preschool children will cheerfully drag their mothers to their favorite fast food places and older children will escort them, with great decorum, to restaurants with actual dinnerware. The majority of children will serve their mothers breakfast in bed, a calamitous tradition that refuses to die. Adult children with children of their own will have greater reverence for their mothers, graced with understanding and empathy. Mothers will righteously accept the presents, cards, flowers and candy, and promises of exemplary behavior in the future. She has always and will continue to deserve the esteem bestowed upon her by her family on this one honored day of each year…

Stop and Smell the Flowers
Papa walked along life’s rocky path
Where no flowers lay beneath his feet
Tired and weary bones from toil and pain
Found rest only during winter’s sleep
End of day brought Papa home
To Mama waiting at the door
With a faint-hearted smile he entered
Then wanted to leave no more
No dust, grime, or smell of sweat
Not a place drab and dreary
Sweet fragrances of lilac and roses
Made the air bright and cheery
Mama’s laugh made Papa smile
Ending the drudgery of the day
Early morning sun came too soon
Once again finding Papa on his way
He stopped and smelled the flowers
Along side the dusty road
On the way home he picked a few
To lightened his heavy load
A tradition handed down…
Mama worked hard each day
Some days ready to explode
Papa brought Mama flowers
To lightened her heavy load

Which word best describes a teacher? ALL of the above!
Teacher Appreciation Week 2013 began on Monday, May 6 with today,Tuesday, May 7 being NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY 2013!
Why should teacher appreciation be celebrated only one week out of the year? Why should it ever end? Teacher appreciation should span the time from the first day of school preparation to the first day of summer vacation!
“When you see a teacher today, or any day for that matter, thank them for everything they do.” They don’t give up on your children so why shouldnt you support them!

I was immediately drawn to the title of a post by Alastair today since it was a pun on the Star Wars’ line ‘May the Force be with you!” I smiled and reflected for a moment on my encounter with the first Star Wars movie in 1977. Little was it known at the time that Star Wars would become a legend, an icon, practically a household word. The smiles on camera were just the beginning of a movie phenomenon!
Who was/is your favorite Star Wars character and/or episode?

Not sure if it is proper etiquette to reblog one of your own posts, but today this one seemed most fitting. It has been over a year since the hospital incident referenced here. In fact, almost a year to the day, another incident, much more serious, landed my husband, Jim, in a hospital bed for a month. Now, home for the past two weeks has still presented hardships and catastrophes unexpected.
He is my life, my soul mate, and continues to capture my heart on a daily basis. Even in times of unimaginable pain, he finds a way to focus on others, not himself. I love this story and I will never forget The Teardrop!
When a loved one is ‘out of sorts’ so to speak, all energies go toward making that one special person feel as comfortable as possible – spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. While endeavoring to meet all of the daily demands and maintain sanity, thoughts of one’s self seem to somehow become insignificant yet that ability to sustain self does not go unnoticed.
This hit me right between the eyes during my stay in the hospital with my husband. He had already been in our small town hospital for almost a week. The chair that did pull out into a small cot offered little or no comfort other than providing me the time and place to be beside him during his most uncomfortable and painful moments. Then, he was transported to a different hospital and to both our surprise was placed in CCU. Of couse, that meant no cot for the night! Thus, the 80-mile…

The question of the day @Awakenings is
“What if you could
NOT
Think. Speak. Tweet. Like. Share. FREELY?”
Such freedoms are not enjoyed all over the world nor is exercising such freedom always safe.
Did you know in the past 10 years:
Only 1 in 10 cases of crimes against social media producers, journalists, and media workers has led to a conviction.
600+ journalists, social media producers and media workers have been killed while reporting news to the general public.
