Awakenings: Carnival Charisma

MORE on Scoop.itAmerica

Summer – gone! September – gone! October – gone! Here we are in November and the elections are over! Happiness for some, disappointment for others but hopefully the future holds ambitions for all based upon American values. Before venturing ahead, let’s step back to a moment in time that is filled with possibly the fondest of childhood memories. . .

Memoires on awakenings2012.blogspot.fr

The Carousel

On a late fall Saturday afternoon
Straight out of a child’s dream
Young and old, mystified and amazed
Watched hundreds of lights beam

Smiles and laughter the carnival enthused
Stretching back time to the first carousel
Sounds emitted of familiar organ tunes
Permeated the air like a magic spell

 Thirty-two hand-painted horses
Two chariots and four love seats
Ornately decorated and trimmed in brass
Synchronized movements to the off-tone beats

Metal gears, joints and jumping poles
Created fascination beyond measure
How surprising one would pay someone a nickel
To ride a wooden horse in circles for pleasure

 Freedom enjoyed on carnival day
Made the carousel part of timeless traditions
Its ride connected the past to the present
Laying the foundation for future generations

Porcelain Unicorn

It never ceases to amaze me how some things come full circle when least expected. I received the video link, Porcelain Unicorn, in an email message last April and filed it away in a personal folder because it is so compelling. Intentions were to revisit it during some quiet down time. This morning that revisitation occurred while trying desperately to find daylight at the end of the mega messages in my email Inbox.

Here is the background. . .

Legendary British film director Sir Ridley Scott launched a global film making contest for aspiring directors. It’s titled “Tell It Your Way.” There were over 600 entries.

The film could

  • be no longer than three minutes,
  • contain only six lines of narrative and
  • be a compelling story.

The winner was “Porcelain Unicorn” from American director Keegan Wilcox.

It’s a story of the lifetimes of two people (1930 – 1945) who are totally opposite, yet, very much the same – all told in less than 3 minutes.

Mythical symbol of magic
Enchanting in the realm of fairies
The unicorn imbues in dreams
Reflections of pure innocence

After the Storm

To all impacted by the storm’s wrath. . .

After a storm comes a calm.
~Matthew Henry

After the storm the sun still smiles

Easing the sadness across the miles

Helping hands do quickly extend

Working together to heal and mend

Prayer is uplifted for all today

As faith in tomorrow lights the way

Fire in the Sky

A step into the backyard at twilight into a glorious sunset…

*****

flames etch the horizon

scorching into memory

its fiery sadness

brandishing the heart

searing the soul

*****

slow with descent

melting in splendor

darkness engulfs

close of day

as the last ember glows

A beautiful sunset stills the mind, calms the heart…become lost in its splendor. ~catnipoflife

Awakenings: Monsters: Laughter or Shivers?

See on Scoop.itAmerica

With Halloween approaching, stories of ghosts, goblins and ghouls monopolize the setting as the movie makers try to outdo one another with scenes of blood and gore.

A Step Back in Time

Awakening a few cobwebs with pictures from a night in the 80s. Oh, such a night! What a night it was, what a night it really was! What are your fondest memories of Halloween – laughter or shivers? Who did you profess to be? (Don’t answer these until you have visited Awakenings!)

Awakenings: America: Enchanting, Beautiful and Free

See on Scoop.itAmerica
The premise behind Awakenings is to reopen the eyes of Americans to the awareness of those who laid the foundation and established the platform for America’s freedom. It began over 400 years ago with the most significant landing in our nation’s founding: Jamestown, Virginia, 1607. This significant point in time did not occur without sacrifice: lives of individuals, entire families and loved ones. And, sacrifices are still being made today to maintain that which was established centuries ago.
